Heads up. Offer support. Provide resources. Empower peers.
Hope Squad is a universal peer-to-peer support and suicide prevention program that uses education, training, and peer intervention to improve school communities. SCSD began implementing Hope Squads during the 2021-22 school year.
Hope squad members are selected by their peers as being kind, inclusive helpers in our learning communities. Hope Squad meetings follow curriculum that focuses on QPR training (question, persuade, refer) as well as how to handle adversity, building resilience, improving inclusivity and school climate, and development of self care skills.
Hope Squads meet weekly or bi-weekly, and squad members:
*Attend Hope Squad meetings *Create & participate in school-wide Hope activities
*Monitor their own self-care needs *Work to empower students who feel isolated, left out or alone
*Refer struggling peers to school adults *Maintain confidentiality
