Timothée Hal Chalamet is a well loved and renowned American and French actor. He has received various accolades, including nominations for an Academy Award, three Golden Globe Awards, and three BAFTA Film Awards. He is most known for his works in Dune, Wonka, and Call Me by Your Name. A sophomore, Evangeline Dara, recalls first seeing the actor in the film Little Women. “I remember him playing Laurie in Little Women. I thought he played the role well and encapsulated all the emotions of the character throughout the film.” On October 27th in New York’s Washington Square Park an event organized by YouTuber Anthony Po who has 1.8 million subscribers and known for pulling other viral stunts was held. News of the upcoming Timothée Chalamet lookalike contest went viral on platforms like TikTok which drew hundreds of attendees and dozens of people dressed up as Chalamet’s best-known film roles. 21-year-old Miles Mitchell, who dressed as Wonka, won the $50 prize. Unplanned Timothée Chalamet even made a quick appearance himself taking pictures with some of the contestants. A sophomore, Khalil Douglas, gives his opinion on whether if he had entered, would he have won his own competition? “I believe he would have won because it’s his own competition. How can anyone look more like Timothée than himself?” Drawing a crowd of almost 2,000 people led police to intervene, seeking to keep order. Four people were arrested. A sophomore, Faria Hussain, believes it wasn’t fair to the people who got arrested because “it was a friendly event and I feel like when a celebrity comes everyone would want to try to be next to them but that’s not a fair reason to arrest them if they weren’t hurting Timothée directly, they just wanted pictures.” The Chalamet contest sparked a wave of upcoming celebrity look alike contests. The day after the Chalamet lookalike contest, flyers went up around New York for an upcoming Jeremy Allen White look alike contest.
