Looking at different case studies of crematoriums, it has been observed that the spaces designated for certain functions or programs are underutilized. And thus, looking at how can those spaces be intersected to create a new experience for the people visiting the crematorium and exploring the characteristics of different spaces. Looking at what can be the degree of intersection between spaces and what can be the degree of separation which can provide value to a space. Also exploring the transition between spaces and how can a space subtly intersect or transform.
PROCESS
Exploring how can spaces intersect and create a new experience using manipulation of walls and modulating roofs.
Exploring different degrees of intersection of spaces and introducing levels to create a visual connection between spaces.
FINAL DESIGN
PLAN 1 (UPPER LEVEL)
All the spaces are visually connected to each other but there is a certain path or an experience through which people can access that space.
Using different levels can create a sense of direction and intersection visually. Ramps are added to provide more accessibility and also create a porosity on the lower level which can create a space with a different experience and transition.
PLAN 2 (LOWER LEVEL)
There is no certain boundary to any space which allows them to flow into each other and help understand the relation between two or more spaces with same or similar functions. The transition of public to semi-private to private can create a subtle connection between spaces. Porous walls are used to have the visual connection between spaces.
