I love teaching because I love feeling like I've made an impact on children's lives.
What gets her excited about going to work at school?
The students! They make every day meaningful & are full of the unexpected.
My mom sent me a bottle of champagne for passing the edTPA and getting accepted into a Masters program. I cried!
Learning about children's mathematical thinking through classroom visitations and activities with a variety of students as part of Dr.Soto's math methods course was inspirational and has shown me just how exciting it is to analyze children's thinking and build upon their understandings and misconceptions.
I have learned that becoming a teacher is an ongoing learning journey and it does not have to be a journey ventured alone. I have learned how to effectively communicate my needs as well as use my support system (professors, guide teacher, supervisors, and colleagues) to aid in the success of this program and for the future.
I love teaching because I am able to form relationships with the students and hopefully make a lasting impact on their lives.
I’m excited for the community of teachers that I will find at my school that will increase my ever-expanding network of educators. I’m excited to have students who are excited to learn about the world and explore concepts with me.
On the final day of student teaching before schools closed indefinitely, our campus had no power. I successfully taught my first graders in the dark in a small corner of our classroom with only light coming in from the door and flashlights. It was pretty epic to be able to teach children under these crazy circumstances!
My most epic moment was when I went with my students on a field trip to the San Diego Zoo and was able to see the students' excitement when they saw the animals that they had researched for their animal project.
Right before we left, my students were preparing for a musical and one of their songs was Don't Worry About a Thing. I have been watching them practice and prepare for weeks. Their performance was supposed to be a week after school closures, and I can't get that song out of my head-- their singing and their movements. They are innocent, loving, and inspiring. Our job is so important as their teacher, mentor, and friend whether we see them in person or online.
What gets her excited about working at a school:
I love seeing the kids and their smiling faces.
I am extremely type A and teaching is perfect for me .
When the going gets tough, at least the kids are funny.
