My most inspirational experience was tutoring ELL students in high school chemistry. The students understood the material, but needed support with learning the subject in English. After spending lunches going over the material with them, they were excited to tell me that they passed their exams.
Most epic moment in the program this year:
I had a student in one of my placements who would ask me every day if I was teaching class today. This 7th grader would get extremely excited when I said yes and disappointed when I said no.
I am so excited to spread my love of science and learning!
Most inspirational moment in the program this year:
Attending Day of Understanding at HSHMC and listening to motivational speakers.
I love the look on a student's face when they realize a mathematical concept. I have experience in multiple careers and I find teaching to be the most satisfying and rewarding work.
Most epic moment in the program this year:
Finishing my first observation. I was so anxious going into it, but I did pretty well regardless. It was the moment where I really felt like I could actually be a good teacher.
My guide teacher from Fall semester reached out to me to ask how I was doing. She shared with me that my students were asking about me and missed me very much. She even got comments from students that I did not teach but I was around to help in that they missed my presence at school. She said that I brought a comfort to them and that she thought that this would be something special I brought to every class. This made me feel like I was on the right path for my career.
Most epic moment in the program this year:
One student, in my class period, earned his first B in a science classroom. In a survey at the end of the grading period, he stated that "this was the first time he felt smart in high school." That made all my efforts worth it.
I love to teach because I love to learn! As someone who had a keen interest in science early on in life, I truly appreciate all of the opportunities that I received to explore my interests and all of the educators who helped to facilitate those experiences. Therefore, it is my goal as a science teacher to provide opportunities for students to explore how science relates to them and to help them develop the tools to think critically and continue learning beyond my classroom.
My classmates are amazing! Sometimes, we would have a tough day at our site and we would vent, but also share why we love teaching and stay positive. We would check in on one another and help each other with assignments, stress management, and teaching tips.
Most epic moment in the program this year:
Festivus at Molly's house!
Most epic moment in the program this year:
It was when the average test scores of both of my classes were above 80%. One of my students, who has struggled with Math for years, came up to me and showed me he got a solid A on the test. Students then announced me as “the best” because I had made Math easier for them.
I'm excited to embrace a school's culture. I'm also excited to make a positive impact on young people's lives through teaching as well as coaching.
I have learned that I can be very patient with students. However, I have learned that this is exactly what I want to do. Having a class full of eager and happy students made me forget about how tired and stressed I was. In that moment I was there to teach and I enjoyed that everyday.
