About Parkland

Parkland Secondary School is a grade 9-12 school of approximately 550 students. It is a medium sized, vibrant high school located in North Saanich serving the municipalities of Sidney, North Saanich and the northern peninsula of Vancouver Island. We are proud to have a number of students from our local First Nations communities, BO,ḰE,ĆEN (Pauquachin), W̱JOȽEȽP (Tsartlip), W̱,SIKEM (Tseycum), and S,ȾAUTW̱ (Tsawout) attending Parkland. We would like to acknowledge and thank the W̱SÁNEĆ people for sharing their territory. HÍSW̱ḴE

At Parkland, staff pride themselves on delivering top-notch programs to students that they know and care for.  In an increasingly complex world, a community school where all students are known is one of its greatest assets. Staff are welcoming and dedicated and strive to inspire students to achieve their full potential. We work in partnership with our community to develop healthy, motivated, and responsible students who are well equipped to be successful in post-secondary endeavours.

Parkland is the only English speaking public school on southern Vancouver Island to offer the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program for students in their final two years of high school. The IB Diploma Program prepares students for participation in a rapidly evolving and increasingly global society as they develop intellectually, emotionally, physically and ethically while acquiring skills that will prepare them for further education and life in the 21st century. Universities across Canada and around the world regard the IB program as excellent preparation for university entrance.

In addition to the International Baccalaureate program, Parkland is well known for its Marine Institute.  Students at Parkland can take courses in Marine Science, Marine Trades, and can participate in our Sailing Academy.  Parkland has a strong Trades and Technology program offering courses in Wood, Metal, Mechanics, and Computer Technology.  Each year Parkland stages a full musical theatre production in our state-of-the-art theatre drawing huge crowds from the local community.  Students can also take courses in Music, Dance, Acting and Directing, Visual Arts and Digital Media. Parkland is also home to a Hockey Academy and Canada's only Judo Academy.

Athletics are a big part of Parkland's culture and every year Parkland runs teams in volleyball, basketball, soccer, rowing, track and field, among others.

Each year, Parkland is proud to welcome International Students from all over the world. These students add to the vibrant global community at our school, and provide our Canadian students with the opportunity to learn from, and become life-long friends with, people from across the globe.

Mission Statement:

Parkland is an innovative, inspiring and inclusive learning community built upon a strong foundation of compassionate and engaging staff. Our goal is to develop graduates who are caring, knowledgeable and socially responsible young adults fully equipped to contribute to our local and global community.
