Jazz Band

Jazz Band auditions are open to 7th and 8th-grade musicians enrolled in band at Traughber. 

6th graders who play piano, guitar, bass, or drum set may also audition. 

Jazz Band has standard jazz instrumentation: 2 alto saxes, 2 tenor saxes, 1 bari sax, 4 trumpets, 4 trombones, 1 drum set player, and 2 keyboards. We may take other instruments if the audition quality of individuals is very high.

Director: Mr. Cano

Rehearsals: Jazz Band meets every Monday and Thursday, 3:10-4:30 pm. Rehearsals will begin in Sept, 2023

Performances:

The Jazz Band will play at the band concerts and at some Pep Assemblies. Other performance opportunities may develop as the school year progresses.

Member Expectations:

1. Members should be seated and ready to play on time with the instrument built with the music and pencil on the stand.

2. Attendance at every rehearsal is REQUIRED (unless excused for previously cleared conflicts).

3. Students are expected to be ready to rehearse with music prepared outside of rehearsal. Students should increase practice time, use Smartmusic and take lessons if needed to be prepared to play all parts at rehearsal.

Percussion Ensemble (When Offered)

The Traughber JHS Percussion Ensemble is an extra-curricular group which will meet outside of the school day.  The Percussion Ensemble is a chamber ensemble specializing in music composed exclusively for percussion instruments. Music in all styles; contemporary art music,ethnic ensemble, pop, jazz etc. are performed. The group auditions are open to any current Traughber Percussion student who is a member of the 6th, 7th or 8th grade band.  The group will perform at school concerts and The VanderCook College Day of Percussion. Additional performance opportunities will be available as the school year progresses.

Who: Any current Traughber Percussion student who is a member of the 6th, 7th or 8th grade band may audition.

When: Rehearsals will ​Mondays after school, 3:15-5:15 pm

Where: Traughber Band Room

​Auditions:  See included mallet and snare material. An outside percussion teacher will listen to auditions. ​Auditions will take place on Thursday, Nov. 3 after school. Please click the link to reserve an audition time. ​

Leaders: The group will be supervised by Mrs. Maxwell

Cost: Members who are selected will pay a $25 fee made to Traughber Band Boosters to cover the cost of music.
