Course Content:
Each component will consist of three topics, with research methods included in both. For each of the topics, content will relate to:
• Key concepts
• Theories/explanations
• Research studies
• Applications
For each topic, learners will be required to study two core studies to support the content of related theories.
For each core study, learners should ‘tell the story’ of the study by considering the following:
• Background
• Method
• Design
• Sample
• Materials/apparatus
• Procedure
• Results
• Conclusions
• Criticisms
Assessment Structure:
Two assessments both worth 50% of the GCSE qualification
A minimum of 20% of the overall marks in both components are for the assessment of mathematics
Finally a 13- mark question will appear in section C of both papers and will require learners to make a judgement on a specific area of psychology.
Career Prospects and Transferable Skill: Psychology is relevant for any field but the key ones are clinical psychologist, forensic psychologist, cognitive behavioural therapist and counsellor.
