Course Overview:
In this course, students will perform in a wide variety of dance styles.
• You will acquire and develop technical and expressive skills.
• You will monitor and evaluate your own progress and set targets for improvement.
• Gain experience in preparing and performing for an audition.
Course Content:
You will learn set sequences of movement and perform in short dance pieces both as a group and as an individual.
You also have to complete written reviews and research logs. There is no formal written examination for this qualification.
During the course, students will cover the following components:
Component 1: Exploring the Performing Arts
Component 2: Developing Skills and Techniques in the Performing Arts
Component 3: Performing to a Brief
Within this students will cover the following:
• Explore performance styles, creative intentions and purpose
• Investigate how practitioners create and influence what’s performed
• Discover performance roles, skills, techniques and processes
• Take part in workshops, classes and rehearsals
• Gain physical, interpretative, and rehearsal skills
• Apply these skills in performance
• Reflect on their progress, their performance and how they could improve
• Use a performance brief and previous learning to come up with ideas for a performance piece that will:
Build on their skills in classes, workshops and rehearsals
Review the process using an ideas and skills log
Perform a piece to their chosen audience
Reflect on their performance in an evaluation report.
Assessment Structure:
Component 1: Internally assessed assignments (30% of the qualification)
Component 2: Internally assessed assignments (30% of the qualification)
Component 3: Externally assessed task, where students work in groups of between 3 and 7 members to create
a performance based on a set brief (40% of the qualification)
Extra Curricular Opportunities:
Students have the opportunity to work with other Dance teachers and students in Leigh Academies Trust. Students will also have the opportunity to obtain their Dance Leaders Award working with local Primary Schools.
Career Prospects and Transferable Skills:
This qualification prepares students for both practical and academic routes. A Performing Arts qualification can lead to careers such as:
