SCV35 uses a learner-centered and standards-based approach to teaching and learning. This means that educators identify what students need to know and be able to do, use data to reflect on what students know, and then design and implement instruction that meets these needs. The adopted instructional model in SCV35 includes the eight components of the Sheltered Instruction Observation Protocol (SIOP). SIOP is a research-based instructional framework designed to support English learners (ELs) in acquiring both academic content knowledge and English language skills simultaneously. It provides structured, evidence-based teaching strategies that make lessons more accessible while promoting language development.
SCV35 also implements an academic Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) to ensure all learners receive the level of support necessary for success. The purpose of the academic MTSS structure is to ensure all students first receive effective, high-quality core instruction aligned to grade-level standards. Through ongoing data collection and progress monitoring, students are then provided with tiered levels of academic support based on their individual needs to promote growth, close learning gaps, and ensure academic success for all learners.
