Assessment is a process is a means to determine the effectiveness of teaching and learning. Authors of Deep Curriculum Alignment, English and Steffy (2001), state, “One does not come to school to be assessed, but to engage in teaching and learning. Assessment is the means to determine if teaching and learning have been effective; it should not be a substitute for it” (p.117-118). Employing multiple instruments and measures of assessment assures the most informed and appropriate decisions are being made on behalf of each student.
