English Learners (ELs) who take the WIDA ACCESS test each year, seem most challenged by the writing portion of the four tests. In 2022-2023 Valorie Arrowsmith set a goal to work on writing tasks with ELs, and to see if the extra attention to this domain will help support students. Teaching to the test was not the intent, rather, she tried to find writing tools that could be recycled all through their lives.
