Food Sculpture Writing Prompts

Artifact Description

There are three different quirky food sculpture images with a series of writing prompts. Students are asked to respond to sentences starters. A Jamboard link is attached.

Reflection

Students react to these photos. The pictures are interesting, out of the ordinary, and quirky. Because language learners are engaged, they look at them longer than something from their everyday lives. There are real items to identify and describe.

This task could be done on Google Slides or Jamboard.

Think of the ACTFL* "C" for "Connections" and extend this lesson with a connection to the visual arts. Look up Giuseppe Arcimboldo who created portraits with fruits and vegetables. Here is an article called, "Discourse: Food for Thought" by N. Abbasi (January 17, 2021), which features other artists who also work with food as a medium.
