Junior Infants completed an eTwinning project in 2020. The theme of the project was 'Christmas in our Countries'. Throughout the project the children developed their oral language skills by making video presentations. They explored the local culture and traditions of children in other European countries. They sent and received Christmas cards and shared songs and poems with each other in the native language of each school- Irish, Italian and Sami. The two other schools involved in the project were Scuola primaria Andorno Micca located in Andorno Micca in Italy and Nuorgam primary school in Lapland , Finland. The project received a National Quality Label from Leargas and the award ceremony took place online this week.
VID_20201013_104611.mp4Junior Infants participated in an eTwinning project in 2019/2020. Teachers from Andorno in Italy, Savukoski and Nuorgam in Finland also took part. The core theme of the project was based on languages and culture from all three countries. We shared this through the curricular areas of literacy, music, SESE and SPHE. Each country showcased their local towns and villages. We exchanged words, phrases , songs and poetry through our languages; Gaeilge, English, Finnish, Sami and Italian. We created Christmas cards in our schools and sent these by post to the pupils in the participating schools. We explored how we prepare for Christmas in Ireland, Finland and Italy and we shared images from our schools and towns. We hosted an eTwinning live event in December and shared recipes and images of our traditional Christmas food.
Junior Infants were awarded a national eTwinning Quality label for their project 'A Calendar of Traditions' in June 2019.

eTwinning offers a platform for teachers, working in a school in one of the European countries involved, to communicate, collaborate, develop projects and share learning through the use of Digital Learning/ICT.
We shared information about traditional events which took place during the year. The project involved a Junior Infant class in an Irish primary school and a kindergarten class in an Estonian school. We shared photos, videos, artwork, poems and pieces of writing about the events chosen. The aim of the project was to share traditions in the year between Estonia and Ireland and compare similarities and differences between the cultures.
