As part of the educational program funded by the European Union, I, Kubilay Demir, participated as an expert in a series of training sessions at Iordache Cantacuzino Pașcani school in Romania. The activities took place between November 11-15.2024, and involved the participation of both primary and secondary school teachers. The main focus was on enhancing teaching methodologies, integrating technology into classrooms, and promoting the well-being of teachers and students.
Overview of Activities:
Welcome and Orientation
On Monday, November 11, I was warm welcomed by the school students, secondary school teachers, the principal, deputy principal, and local community representatives such as the Mayor. This session allowed me to familiarize myself with the school environment and set the stage for the upcoming workshops and discussions.
Round Table Discussion: Comparative Education Systems
The same day, a round table discussion was held to compare the Romanian and Turkish education systems. This session was attended by English, primary, and secondary school teachers. I presented key insights, shared educational practices, and facilitated an open dialogue on educational challenges and solutions.
Workshops on Technology Integration
On Tuesday, November 12, two workshops were conducted on integrating technology into the classroom. The morning session focused on secondary school teachers, while the afternoon session included primary school teachers and English teachers. The sessions highlighted effective strategies for using digital tools to enhance student engagement and learning outcomes.
Workshops on Teacher and Student Well-being
On Wednesday, November 13, workshops were conducted to address the holistic well-being of teachers and students. Separate sessions were held for secondary and primary school teachers, focusing on stress management, mental health, and the importance of creating a supportive classroom environment.
Engaging Classroom Activities
On Thursday, November 14, interactive workshops were organized to demonstrate engaging classroom activities. Teachers learned to incorporate games like the "Memory Game," "Vocabulary Game," and various sentence-reordering games to make learning more interactive and enjoyable. These sessions were highly appreciated as they provided practical tools to make lessons more dynamic.
Day of Reflection and Feedback
The final day, Friday, November 15, was dedicated to reflection and feedback. Informal discussions were held to gather input from participating teachers on the effectiveness of the sessions. The feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with teachers expressing appreciation for the new methodologies and tools introduced during the week. Lastly, everyone, including me awarded with certificates which represent a magnificent work.
Outcomes and Impact:
The training sessions were highly successful, with full participation from both primary and secondary school teachers. Teachers actively engaged in discussions, workshops, and hands-on activities, demonstrating a strong commitment to applying new strategies in their classrooms. The activities not only enhanced their teaching skills but also strengthened collaborative ties between teachers.
The feedback collected on the last day emphasized the value of integrating technology and creative activities in education. Teachers appreciated the emphasis on student and teacher well-being, recognizing the importance of addressing mental health in the educational environment.
Conclusion:
Overall, the training program was a resounding success, meeting its objectives of improving teaching methodologies and promoting well-being. The collaboration with the school and the enthusiastic participation of the educators contributed to the program’s achievements. It was a rewarding experience to contribute to my and their professional development and to witness the positive impact of these sessions on our teaching practices.
