Bullock (10th)

Bay Area Trip 2/26-29/20

February 26 through February 29 was the highlight for many AVUD students. Mrs. Bullock's sophomore AVID class of 2020 was fortunate enough to go on their Bay Area trip. Our first stop was San Jose State University where one of our tour guides was a previous Cougar. Dani Directo, a graduated Steele Canyon Cougar who was in AVID for 4 years gave us a tour of SJSU. Our next stop was Stanford University. Many students enjoyed the Stanford tour for it was in a beautiful location. A highlight of our first day being in the Bay Area was seeing a few of our classmates run through the Stanford water fountain. After a long fun first day we all settled into our hotel rooms. This where the trip was really made for many students. Being in a hotel room with your classmates forces you to create closer bonds with one another and our class did just that. Our AVID class has become 10x closer than before and we are all extremely thankful for that. One of our favorite memories of this trip was pranking Steve along with all the other pranks that came along with being in a hotel full of teenagers. Throughout the rest of the trip we toured 3 other colleges such as California State University Monterey Bay, University of California Berkeley, and San Francisco State University. The Bay Area trip wasn’t strictly based upon education and touring colleges, we also went to experience fun activities like going to the Monterey Bay Aquarium, seeing the Golden Gate Bridge, taking a tour of the Winchester Mystery House, and walking around Fisherman’s Wharf, Pier 39. The trip overall was educational and memorable for many reasons. We all gained new knowledge on 5 colleges that are close to home, made memories that will last a lifetime, and created stronger bonds with our classmates. Mariah Mata

SDSU Field Trip 10/15/19

On 10/15/19 Mrs. Bullock’s sophomore AVID class went on a trip to San Diego State University and received a college tour of the campus which was led by Danielle, a junior at SDSU. While on the tour, many great questions were asked about the university which helped us gather information on why San Diego State University is a great match for all the students in AVID. Later, Isaac, a senior at SDSU, gave a presentation to the AVID class about all the a-g requirements and the fun things and majors that SDSU offers students. Students learned that the acceptance rate is 25%-30% and SDSU is ranked #1 in graduation rates. This school also has over 45,000 students who attend. Exploring the campus was fun like looking at fraternities and sororities on campus along with a fitness center that has a tall rock wall and a pool area that consists of 3 pools in total. SDSU has many food areas and restaurants like Panda Express, Rubios, a pizza place, Starbucks, etc. This tour showed us what college life is really like and was a fun experience.
