Going on a trip with my AVID class to visit both UCLA and CSU Fullerton was one of the most exciting and favorable opportunities I have been able to have. When arriving at our first college tour, CSU Fullerton, I was very excited to experience something new with my classmates. After excitedly waiting and chatting with my classmates, out tour guide finally arrived. The campus was awesome, it had its own gym with a rock climbing wall, a statue which could bring you good luck, and our tour guide even offered to show us a life-size replica of Po from the movie Kung Fu Panda (though he was marvelously underwhelming). Along the tour we learned about their many interesting academic programs. It was such a fun experience! After our tour, some friends and I had lunch and somehow ended up in the Fullerton’s arcade room. After having such a good experience at this school, I was preparing for our UCLA tour with even higher expectations. When we finally arrived, my friends and I talked about how amazing this school would be to attend. The campus was huge, but it was so beautiful. We all loved the old fashioned look of the school so much that we had our own mini-photo shoot whenever our tour guide stopped for a moment. The school offered many unique programs, especially for those interested in the STEM field. Our tour guide was a previous Steele Canyon student, so it was interesting to hear about the school from her perspective. She led us on a walk through a unique statue garden where some friends and I jokingly took some humorous pictures with the statues. She even showed us UCLA’s famous Fowler Museum towers, where we attempted to find the differences between the left and the right one. Afterward, we had a fun time exploring the student store and watching the sun go down. Overall, both colleges offered amazing academic opportunities and fun new memories. This trip allowed me to get very close with my classmates as well as have a better idea of what I want to do with my future, I can’t wait for the next one!

On May 2nd Mrs. Bullock's Freshman AVID class was privileged to go on a college tour to see SDSU and all that CSU has to offer. Going through the school we were able to see all the opportunities that SDSU had to offer especially in the range of academics. With their freshman retention rate of 89% it is no wonder that freshmen keep returning. They have a top rated nursing program which is one of the most competitive programs to get into along with other majors that are top rated as well. .Aside from the academics the students were able to see all the different activities that they have around campus like a rock climbing wall in the gym that you can do for either workout purposes or as a club to just see how far you can climb with other people. SDSU also had plenty of places to eat with a whole food court, a burger place, and a newly installed Starbucks that was so crowded. The whole class enjoyed the trip even though some weren’t as interested as others but by the end of the day some students were even considering applying for SDSU. Even though we are only freshman, college is right around the corner for us.

On November 2, 2017 Mrs. Bullock’s Avid class of 2021 had the opportunity to visit University of San Diego to learn and know the benefits in attending USD in the future. The University of San Diego showed us the many majors and minors they have as well as what qualifications were needed to attend the University. The supervisor of USD talked to us about the founding of the school and how the school is founded on the Catholic faith. Despite the students religious belief all are still welcome to attend the University of San Diego. He also explained how many students who attended in the past became very successful with their choice in a major and minor.
After the encounter with the supervisor we headed out on a group tour with two students who attend the University of San Diego to learn about the campus. The two students were opposite genders male and female and different grades sophomore and senior which helped with knowing more about the campus. During the tour the class wrote notes with what most interests them about the school. As we had gone around the campus we learned many different facts and places about USD. There were also many new improvements with the school recently. They both provided many eye opening information regarding the school. This helped those of us who plan on attending USD in the future.
At the end of the tour we wrote about the benefits of attending the University of San Diego. About half the students had considered or thought of attending USD in the future, but the other half did not find interest or purpose for them to attend the school. They also wrote five proficient questions attached to the notes they had written. There were many items that were interesting about the school which caught a lot of the students attention. Although the school did not offer majors or minors in the career choices for some students they still acknowledged what the school has to offer them.
The University of San Diego is a very beautiful, cultural, and intellectual school to attend. It brings you many opportunities which can help you with becoming successful with your studies. The school is also very supportive in the choices you make and your choice of passage. There are many alumnis and professionals who work or present at the school daily to teach or lead you to the right path. The University of San Diego is a great school to attend for your career choice of becoming what you please, staying successful, and staying positive.
