The Ropes course was a trip that we will never forget. We got to head up to Lake Arrowhead to visit the beautiful mountains and we were able to sleep in cabins with with our AVID family. The days consisted of multiple activities with Steve learning to trust each other, deal with the struggles we face, and to just have fun. Throughout the 3 days we were there we played pranks on each other, in which the girls beat the guys with shaving cream and other mischievous activities. The girls also had to fix the boys mistake when the boys had their prank blow up in their face and we had to save them and get their water that they turned off, back on. Overall, we had lots of fun climbing the trees, swinging off ropes, and jumping off platforms to help us face our fears. Our senior class was the first AVID class to have ever had every single person challenge themselves to complete at least 1 high ropes experience. We bonded through songs, silliness, and fear. It was a great learning experience and one we will take with us onto college and beyond.
I truly can not believe it is junior year already. One more year to go and this much so far… I could never say how thankful I am to have my AVID family by my side. Over the years, we have grown closer especially on our annual field trips. Our junior trip took us through LA county to visit college campuses and tourist sites in the area.
The colleges we visited included UCLA and USC. UCLA was very awesome. As the bus turned off of Sunset Boulevard, I knew this school was gonna have a special touch to it. The campus was ginormous, and had a very diverse population of both races and personalities. Students here are very intelligent and have a great taste in the performing arts. Furthermore, I’d consider them pretty lucky as UCLA is a site that many famous people often visit. USC was pretty amazing as well. It was in the quieter part of LA, but still close enough to reach the excitement. I must say I truly enjoyed the internship programs they offered because I felt it was a great way to teach students how to adapt their knowledge to the real world.
The LA sites we went to included the Getty Museum, Universal City Walk and the Santa Monica Pier. It was very beautiful and I’d go into further detail, but nothing compares to being there yourself. I had a lot of fun here, but I’d have to say the big group activity we did was the best. All I can really say is how much AVID has helped my class and I find our true selves and learn life skills to help us in the future in a variety of situations.

The Ropes Course was an unforgettable trip that concluded our AVID experience, being our last trip. The Ropes Course consisted of bonding activities, and strenuous climbing on belay and jumping off of very tall heights. These activities were physically challenging, but mostly emotionally and mentally challenging. While doing this we got to know ourselves and each other better. Surrounded by a beautiful forest, we forgot about our daily responsibilities, got away from the stress of college coming up and focused on enjoying the moment and making the most of our time there with each other. We stayed in cabins and spent all day outside having fun. We faced our fears physically, and worked through other fears and emotions by listening and supporting each other in a safe place full of love and respect. Our AVID class has gotten very close throughout the years but this weekend we became even closer and strengthened our bond as a family.
