Instructional Goal:
You will explore three different philosophies of government (Hobbes, Locke, and Rousseau) to figure out which one you agree with. By comparing them, you will decide if you value safety or freedom more.
2 Essential Questions
Are human beings born naturally nice, or are we born naturally selfish?
Would you rather be 100% safe with strict rules, or 100% free with no protection?
3 Key Vocabulary Words
State of Nature: A world with no government, no police, and absolutely no rules.
Tabula Rasa: "Blank Slate." The idea that you aren't born good or evil; you are born with an empty mind and learn from your experiences.
Social Contract: A deal you make with the government: "I promise to follow the rules, and in exchange, you promise to keep me safe."
