Step into the spotlight with our dynamic and comprehensive TAPCO Theater Department—where creativity, discipline, and passion take center stage! Students in our program receive professional-level training in acting technique, scene study, voice and diction, movement, musical theater, theatre history, audition preparation, resume building, script analysis, directing, lighting design, and stagecraft. Theater study culminates in an arts commencement exam that earns students a Chancellor’s Endorsed Arts Diploma. We produce full-stage productions of classical and modern plays and more intimate performances in our in class studio setting. We also collaborate with our other arts departments to bring our annual All-School Musical to life!
My name is Rebecca Stavis and I am the Theater Teacher at TAPCo. Prior to teaching, I worked professionally as a musical theater actress, working side-by-side with Tony Award nominated actors, directors, choreographers, and technicians, and I had the opportunity to perform in theaters across the world. As a teacher, I intend to teach students that through theatre, they will be able to learn and apply skills that can be used in both in the professional theater world and everyday life. Together, we will work to foster a strong, honest, and positive work ethic both onstage and off, where all students will benefit from an educational theatre experience, no matter what his/her profession may be in the future.

My name is Desiree Rosado and I am the Advanced Acting and Technical Theatre teacher at TapCo. I have been working in theater education for over seven years and am an Arthur Miller Foundation Fellow Alumni. I believe all students should have access to an arts education. My objective is to enrich students’ relationship with theatre and to expose them to the different career pathways in the field, on and off-stage. I strive to foster a deep sense of community in the classroom where students feel supported as they explore and make connections to the work. Artistically, my focus is on directing and stage management. As an actor I have been involved in productions of: Luis Alfaro’s Electricidad, Pirandello’s Six Characters in Search of an Author and several original works. I’ve directed Sarah Ruhl’s The Clean House, Aladdin Dual Language, 10 Best/Worst Things About Middle School and Ths Phne 2.0. I am also the stage manager for the NYC DOE All (In)clusive Theater Ensemble, an innovative theater program for NYC high school student artists from across diverse backgrounds, races, gender identities, abilities and disabilities.
