Students will get to engage in 5 day a week rehearsals within their ensemble in addition to small group instruction. Students will have the opportunity to hone their instrumental and performance skills in the following ensembles: Beginning Modern Band, Intermediate Modern Orchestra, Advanced Modern Band, and Advanced Jazz Orchestra and Modern Band, in addition to two Advanced Portfolio Classes. Students will work on musical proficiency on modern band instruments, strings (including harp), woodwinds, brass, percussion, and keyboards, be assessed on their music knowledge, compile a portfolio of their work, engage in music exposure performance trips throughout the year and complete a minimum of two mandatory concerts that occur each year and will factor into the overall grade. Throughout the year there will be additional performance and other music related opportunities both on campus and throughout New York City.
