Our 4th and 5th grade robotics team has an inspiring story of growth and determination. When they first came together, teamwork didn’t come easy—there were disagreements, challenges listening to each other’s ideas, and learning how to collaborate without conflict. But through practice, reflection, and commitment, these young innovators learned how to truly work as a team.
At the FIRST LEGO League (FLL) qualifying event, their hard work paid off as they earned First Place for their Innovation Project—an award that celebrates creativity, problem-solving, and impactful ideas. Their transformation from a group of individuals to a united, supportive team was recognized in a big way, and they advanced to the semifinal round.
We couldn’t be prouder of their journey and the character they’ve shown. Congratulations to our robotics team—you’ve shown what it truly means to grow, learn, and succeed together!
From Challenges to Champions: The Dewey Designers Robotics Team Earned First Place for Innovation!
Our 4th and 5th grade Soap Box Derby team began their journey with little experience and a lot to learn. Most of the students had never used tools before, and at first, didn’t understand the importance of safety or focus when working. But what started as a rough beginning quickly turned into a powerful learning experience.
Through hands-on practice, mentorship, and teamwork, these students learned how to safely and skillfully use tools, build a soap box car from the ground up, and support each other every step of the way. They transformed from curious beginners into a hardworking, focused, and respectful team.
Their efforts paid off in a big way: out of 32 cars, they raced their way to an impressive 4th place finish! More than just a race, this was a journey of responsibility, growth, and teamwork, and they crossed the finish line stronger than ever.
We’re incredibly proud of what they’ve accomplished both on and off the track. Way to go, team!
