Setting
The boys are on an island.
The boys fall into a routine
Littluns (little ones) stick together. They pick fruit to eat. They are used to having stomachaches
Jack camouflages his face with clay and charcoal to go hunting. He goes with other boys
Piggy shares ideas with Ralph. He wants to make a sundial to tell time
Ralph sees a ship but the signal fire went out
Ralph is furious that everybody went hunting and didn't care to keep the signal fire going
Jack comes back from hunting pigs in the jungle. He is very happy he finally killed a pig. "“Kill the pig. Cut her throat. Spill her blood.”
Jack and Ralph argue. Ralph wanted people to keep the signal fire going. Jack wanted to get meat for everybody
Piggy also complains about the fire going out
Jack makes fun of Piggy by mimicking his voice
Jack apologizes about the fire
They light the fire and cook the pig
There is tension among the boys but they end up talking about how they finally killed a pig
Maurice pretends to be a pig and runs around screaming. The hunters pretend to beat him. They say, "Kill the pig. Cut her throat. Spill her blood.”
Ralph is angry and leaves the beach himself. He decides to call a meeting
