The Office of School Wellness Programs established its Advancing Equity Resource Group (AERG) in spring 2019. Now four years into implementation, the Co-Facilitators of the group will share 1) lessons learned from developing the group’s foundation/infrastructure, 2) strategies for sustaining the group to date, which withstood changes in DOE and office leadership, staffing, and capacity, and 3) examples of the work we have accomplished and our work in progress.
Examples of work include new office-wide hiring, recruitment and retention protocols that are rooted in diversity, racial equity and inclusion; infusing Restorative Justice teachings into wider team engagement activities and AERG committee work; and developing and implementing office-wide systems and processes to increase the visibility and functionality of our Equity Rationale and other equity-based resources.
In this group discussion-based workshop, participants will have opportunities to learn from each other and share their successes and challenges with launching and/or sustaining an office-wide equity-focused group. The workshop will close with a brief action planning activity to support participants with determining immediate next steps.
