“If you treat people like peers and partners in your process, the reward is a warmer welcome
into the community—along with far deeper knowledge of the problems you’re trying to address
and what solutions are worth trying. And those advantages are critical if your ultimate goal is
real lasting justice.”

TITLE: Culturally Responsive Learning Lab Workshop
SYNOPSIS:
This workshop will provide the tools for teachers and students to develop practices that support
community building through participatory design. Participants will establish a deeper connection
with their built environment by co-creating applicable / real world interventions that offer
solutions for positive, transformative and sustainable community change. We will build on skills
that lead to career readiness and clear pathways for our students to be leaders in their
communities.
During the workshop we will cover the collaborative process to:
Establishing goals
Identifying initiatives / opportunities available for action
Develop community standards
Establish a long-term vision for mutually beneficial engagement.
Utilizing CR-S we will develop tools to create lesson plans and programs related to urban and
environmental issues that are contextualized in the students’ home / school neighborhoods. This
will result in, a greater engagement of students, as evidenced by higher attendance rate and
higher GPAs. Also longitudinally, we will see a higher graduation level from students who need
and enjoy hands on lessons and active engagement in urban studies and STEM related fields.
The documents associated with this workshop are currently unavailable.
