The grade breakdown is for incoming students (for example, the Kindergarten list is for incoming kindergarten students).
Still, the grade assignment for each list is only a suggestion. You might want to look at books a grade below and a grade above to find more fabulous titles that are just right for you. Most of the really good books are written for a wide age span (for example, most of the books listed here for fifth graders are also great choices for eighth graders). I also repeated some of the titles across the lists for that reason.
We have now thousands of ebooks and audiobooks to choose from on Sora. Some books were purchased by me for our school, and some were purchased by the librarians at DOE's Library Systems headquarters. All marvelous titles.
