You can use the library space and its resources only after returning the signed contract to the librarian.
The library is designed to offer a safe space to everyone. In order for all our community members to feel welcomed here, you are responsible to demonstrate respect toward the diversity of our school community, and everyone’s individual rights to their own opinions, interests, and identity. The school community rules and behavior expectations should be followed in the library as well.
The library is a quiet space but not silent. You are welcome to enjoy it during the open-access periods listed next to the library’s entrance and on the library’s website. All students in grades 2-5 need a library pass to visit the library during recess’ open access. These passes will be available in your classroom/homeroom. 6-8 graders do not need the passes. Students in all grades will enter the library from the main entrance and sign in at the circulation desk.
While in the library, you may participate in the following activities:
Quiet reading in the designated areas
Browsing and checking out books
Working on your homework or a class assignment
Attending makerspace and other scheduled lunch clubs once you register for them
Quietly conversing with your peers
Playing board games, card games, and using puzzles and arts & crafts materials provided in the library
The computer use is restricted to school assignments and particular websites listed at each computer. Food, drinks, and personal electronics are not permitted in the library and should be stowed away in your backpack unless they are an integral part of a scheduled activity.
While browsing books you are expected to use one of the placeholders provided in the library. As you remove a book from a shelf, you slide the placeholder in its place to mark the spot. If you lose the spot where a book was shelved, place the book on the cart marked “Books to be shelved.” The cart is parked by the circulation desk.
Before you leave the library, you are responsible to clean up after yourself.
All materials borrowed from the library should be returned within two weeks in the same condition they were in when borrowed. If you would like to keep a book for longer than two weeks, bring it to the library to extend it for another week.
Up to three books can be checked out at the time.
Borrowed materials are your responsibility until they are returned to the library.
Keep the library books away from food or drinks, including water bottles in the backpack. Condensation can cause just as much damage as a spill. Keep books away from younger children and pets.
PARENTS AND STUDENTS: You can pay a replacement charge for any library item that is damaged or lost (it is optional).
If you have any questions, you can reach out to me during open access periods, by email, or via the teacher mailbox in the office.
