Scholar Academy is committed to creating a learning environment that fosters in students the development of divergent thinking and problem solving skills, providing opportunities which enable all students to develop a sense of civic responsibility and achieve their highest potential.

Scholar Academy will work to develop a student's intellectual abilities, leadership, creativity and healthy lifelong practices.

WHO WE ARE 

Scholar Academy is a K-8 public charter school, located in Tooele, Utah. Scholar students enjoy a rich, engaging, and student-centered educational program that is focused on improving and challenging students at all levels.

Scholar Academy was built from a philosophy of academic excellence using creative problem solving, cooperative learning, experiential learning, and reflection throughout academic disciplines. Classroom instruction promotes purposeful learning aligned to the Utah State Standard. Our kindergarten through eighth grade program offers a rigorous, engaging curriculum. The mission of Scholar Academy is to provide a quality education for all students that will prepare students to excel academically. Scholar teachers guide students using cooperative learning and creative problem solving strategies across the curriculum, including service learning experiences to foster application, reflection and clarity to student learning.

The student's intellectual ability is enhanced by developing student aptitude for:

• Understanding facts, concepts, generalizations and their relationships

• Identifying patterns

• Verbal and nonverbal reasoning

• Operating at the higher levels of Bloom's Taxonomy

• Evaluating their ideas

The student's specific academic progress is strengthened by mastering skills and concepts across multiple curriculum areas through integrated lessons, modeling and activities that teach:

• Responsibility

• Rapid insight into cause-effect relationships

• Interpersonal intuition

• Collaboration in cooperative learning

• Civic responsibility through service learning

The student's creativity is developed by:

• Fluency, flexibility, originality, elaboration

• Divergent thinking skills

• Digital Skills and competency

• Problem-solving strategies

• Exhibition or performance of the Arts

The student's healthy lifestyle is encouraged by fostering:

• Skill and enjoyment when participating in athletic and recreational sports

  • Healthy habits such as:

  • getting enough sleep

  • good nutrition

• participating in preventative health care measures

• We have the ability to follow an individualized health care plan if necessary.

SCHOOL CHARTER

Scholar Academy is chartered through the Utah State Board of Education. The school charter documents detail our program of instruction and school goals. Please note, the polices and bylaws contained in Scholar Academy’s original charter application are subject to change by the governing board.
