On the reverse side have students write an action that they'll take to make their hope a reality. Advisors collect the cards and hold onto them until later this year.
Thursday: Advisory Activities
These activities can be done inside or out. If the weather is nice, consider circling outside for these.
Juniors will begin a process of considering ways in which they can maximize the rest of their high school experience. This week, juniors will identify a short-term goal to complete by next week.
What challenges do you think students may face during their junior year? Share these with the rest of the group.
Now, think of a limiting paradigm you might have of yourself or about our current school year. For example, “I’ll never be outgoing” "I have no friends in my Spanish class." or “I’ll never do well in math this year.”
Set a short-term goal that totally contradicts that paradigm. E.g. “I will start a conversation with someone I don’t know well this week.”
By next week, students should be ready to report out (individually or as a group) on how they tried to break their paradigm.
If you have time:
Check- in with your advisory about what clubs and activities they are involved with this semester. If they haven't committed to anything encourage them to find an activity for Friday's Activity block. If some students are involved in clubs please have them share what their club does and what their experience has been.
Week 1: Sept 11 - Sept 15
Announcements:
Thursday evening is Open House here at SBHS, which starts at 7 p.m. for returning families and begins at 6 p.m. for new families.
Tuesday: Advisory Activities
Follow up today on the student's paradigm-shifting goal from last week. How did you do in achieving the goal that you set to break your “limiting paradigm"?
Last year 10th-grade advisories made predictions for the year. These are a fun tradition. Today make predictions for the new year. Each student in your advisory should write down their predictions for this school year. Don't share your predictions with your other advisory members. Collect the predictions in an envelope and seal it. Put the envelope somewhere safe and we'll open these in the spring.
Thursday: Junior Class Meeting
Please take attendance in your class space then bring your advisory down to the auditorium and sit together during a class meeting with the A-Team.
Week 1: Sept 18- Sept 22
Announcements:
Friday is a Blue Late Start Day. Classes will start at 10:35.
Your Teachers are available during office hours. Here are office hour locations.
Please review the attendance policy.
If your students miss
7 advisories in one quarter please reach out to the student's parent/guardian and student to raise the concern about the number of advisories missed and offer support in getting the student re-engaged.
10 advisories in one quarter please complete the Attendance Level II form which will notify John Craig to help intervene.
If a student reaches this threshold in a quarter you will need to report a grade of “not passing” on PowerSchool.
Tuesday: Advisory Activities
If you didn't get a chance to make predictions last week. Go back to last week's plans and do that.
In addition to the predictions, take some time this week to write a letter to yourself or to the advisory. You will put these into envelopes and add these to your predictions for your advisory time capsule.
If time permits play the Celebrity Name String Game
Thursday: Junior Class Representative Elections
Please take attendance in your class space then bring your advisory down to the auditorium and sit together to listen to the election speeches.
Just for Fun!

Week 1: Sept 25- Sept 29
Announcements:

Tuesday: Advisory Activity
One focus of 11th-grade advisory is to think about how you can maximize your time here at SBHS. Some advisory times will be structured around activities that help with this idea.
Start by watching the first 7.5 minutes of this video. It outlines the "7 Habits of Highly Effective People" by Stephen Covey. The 7 Habits are a nice framework for how to maximize your 11th and 12th-grade years.
Then work on this activity about being more proactive by having a personal mission statement. Students can make a copy and fill this out digitally.
Thursday: FUN!
Take a walk outside
Play the Celebrity Name String Game
Play Charades
Play Pictionary on the whiteboard
Play something from the game shed. The combination is "CRNHL" (Cornhole without vowels)
