Students are offered a coed program and can choose from three to four activities. Each unit runs for approximately five weeks. Activities include; indoor soccer, flag football, fitness, tennis, basketball, floor hockey, badminton, paddleball, racquetball, volleyball, Wiffle ball, and ultimate frisbee. Within the individual activities, students’ physical fitness progression will be evaluated from marking period 1 through marking period 3 by means of a mile run and push-up and sit-up testing. All students will enhance their overall fitness abilities while participating in warm-ups before an activity. These exercises include; jumping jacks, push-ups, mountain climbers, sit-ups, leg raises, and squat thrusts. Students will also work on their interpersonal skills and communication while participating in their activities with different grade levels. Emphasis will be on sportsmanship and team camaraderie. Health is for one marking period and is a separate graduation requirement, with a program of drug, alcohol, tobacco education, and mental health. There is also one week of sex education and a discussion of bloodborne pathogens.

This course builds on the content and skills developed in Grade 9. Students will have one marking period of Driver’s Education theory, which teaches sound principles of driving, laws, and principles of driving, preparation for a driver’s license, insurance, alcohol and DUI, seatbelts, and dealing with driving safety. It also infuses the effects of drugs and alcohol with regard to driving safety and organ and tissue donor education.

This course builds on the content and skills developed in Grade 10. Students will have one marking period of Health class which teaches mental health and first aid, with emphasis on CPR instruction. Discussion followed by a final exam includes heart attacks, strokes, burns, and blood. An actual CPR demonstration and instruction are required of all students. Organ and tissue donation is also discussed.

This course builds on the content and skills developed in Grade 11. Health is one marking period and focuses on family life, involving discussions of dating, marriage, date rape, suicide, grief, stress, and domestic violence. The study of reproduction, sexually transmitted diseases, and contraceptives is part of the family life unit. Organ and tissue donor education is also presented.
