This course offers a starting point for building a career in this area. This course teaches basic skills and develops values and attitudes useful in gaining entry to the field of accounting. It is intended to give students an understanding of the complete accounting cycle in its elementary form. The principles of double-entry accounting are stressed in both a service-type and merchandising business. Great emphasis is placed on the use of journals, ledgers, and financial statements. Students are exposed to the use of Microsoft Excel by applying their knowledge of accounting principles to solve problems. Accounting I is intended for three types of students: those who desire to have general knowledge for personal use; those who may wish to continue in advanced courses to prepare themselves for possible accounting positions in the business world; and those planning to major in accounting or business administration in college.

Accounting II continues to strengthen and develop basic accounting principles and provides opportunities for experience in new areas of accounting beyond Accounting I. In conjunction with an initial review, new topics are presented and mastered, including: special journals, payroll, depreciation, control systems, and corporate accounting. Students are exposed to the use of Microsoft Excel where they can apply their knowledge of accounting principles to solve problems. Accounting II is strongly recommended for students planning to major in accounting or business administration in college.

Starting out in the real world, the following areas are examined to learn the process of implementing them into daily living: budget, banking, credit, interest, loans, apartment/household, transportation, food, utilities, taxes, family life, savings, and, in short, how to make it all work.
