Seesaw Icon Shortcuts for Activities

Here a kindergartener was given the prompt: If you could have any pet, real or imagined, what would it be. Students were given the option to just draw their pet, or they could record their voice, telling all about it. This assignment was paired with a read aloud of the book, Sparky by Jenny Offill.

As we read aloud the story, The Little Old Lady Who Was Not Afraid of Anything, the students drew the "characters" on the provided background image. At the end of the story, each student recorded our class retell, using their own drawings to help them remember the sequence of events.

As an artifact for this student's portfolio and a means of assessment, this student read aloud from a book at their current reading level. Teachers and parents can watch and listen for finger tracking, using picture cues, fluency, decoding skills, and word attack strategies.

In Science, the students were studying seed dispersal methods. Here students were able to illustrate their seed dispersal method, and then record their voice explaining how it all works.

A student explains the life cycle of a leaf. As they narrate their project, they are able to draw on their photo to show what they are specifically referring to.
