Our outstanding activity of the year is the Winter Carnival week that we host the week before February break. This week essentially embodies Blue Hawk spirit in a week of school unity shown through teamwork and competition. The entire week is a big competition between all four grades. Each day of the week we have assigned themed dress up days.
This year's days:
Monday: Flannel Monday
Tuesday: TV Character day
Wednesday: Meme/Vine day
Thursday: Dress Like Your Commons Day
Friday: Class Colors
Each day we have sign-ins to give points to people that participate in each dress up day at lunch. and we put the grade with the most participation on the official Winter Carnival scoreboard and award points based on 1st, 2nd, etc. at the end of each day!
Throughout the week we have a huge chalkboard in the lobby tracking each grades points!
Mentioned Thursday is commons theme, also part of the competition is each grade gets assigned a common (section of the school) that they have to decorate and throughout the week assigned teachers judge the commons 1st, 2nd, 3rd & 4th! Each year we vote on an overall theme and each grade selects a category to decorate their commons under that theme. This year the theme was Movie Franchises. Seniors were Harry Potter, Juniors were Star Wars, Sophomores were Jurassic park, and Freshman were Alice in Wonderland. Previous years we've done things like Animated Movies, Eras, Salad Dressings, and Biomes!
To finish up the week we have a two hour pep rally on Friday where we have tug-of-war, knockout, relay races, and games like name that tune, all of which points are awarded for. At the very end of the pep rally, the points are added up and the winner is announced; this is purely for bragging rights and brownie points, but totally worth it.
This week is one of the most looked forward to by students all year! It's a LOT of work, but we have fun planning it and enjoying every part of it, of course!
We ran fun social media contests for Winter Carnival points during the week, the most popular of all being on Instagram!
We also had a winter Carnival website where students can sign up for different activities throughout the week and for the pep rally. Check it out here!
