Elections are held once a year in the spring for those who wish to compete for a spot within their student government. Class Officers work to fundraise and host events for their class. These students must, before elected, submit a sheet of paper with 30 signatures from their fellow peers. This sheet states that the candidate is supported by his/her class and is planning on running in the following weeks to come. The candidate must then begin drafting their speech, which they will submit for review to administration, and delivered in April. Once all speeches have been given, voting will commence and the candidate's class is able to vote for who they want to represent their class and their school.
Student Senate elections are a bit different from Class Office Elections. As a member of Student Senate, one represents the school as a whole, rather than being divided by class. Although Student Senate and Class Officers collaborate on service projects and fundraising at times, Student Senate is in charge of planning many annual community wide events. Student Senate is run by E-Board, the Executive Board of Student Senate, there are 5 elected positions on Eboard, for which members of our Senate can run for. In order to run as a candidate for the board, one must co-chair at least one subcommittee, be a member of Student Senate (which entails community service and attendance at at least 10 meetings), and prepare a speech. Once speeches are heard, voting members of Student Senate vote as, rather than the whole student body as seen in Class Officer Elections.
Our Student Senate has the great responsibility to appoint a student representative to the SAU16 Coop School Board. This representative delivers the student report in person at the school board meetings which is televised across the school district. Below are the reports delivered along with different School Board events our Senate has been involved with.
