Children will take home 1 or 2 readers each night. These are small books that can be read as a family.
At the beginning of the year we encourage families to help the child read and guide them by looking at the pictures and match the pictures to the words. When the children become more independent with their reading, we encourage them to use the reading strategies taught in the classroom. These strategies are on a bookmark that was sent home with readers.
This was a note that was sent home to families:
Dear families,
All the Foundation students have settled well into the routine of school and are beginning to learning about books and some strategies to use while reading. We feel they are now ready to begin taking home their readers of a night time. This experience is encouraged to be an enjoyable time for both the student and parent. We will be sharing a video on the Foundation webpage which will give a few helpful hints of some of the things you could do with your child at home. In class we will be teaching the students various reading strategies. We have included a book mark with these reading strategies which can be used as a prompt when your child is reading. Also included is a log booklet which we ask to be filled out each night you read with the date, book title and signature.
Thank-you for all of your support and HAPPY READING!
Kaitlin and Georgia.
