In Foundation at St. Aloysius the children use the ‘Magic 100 Words’ list to help read and write common words. There are seven coloured levels that we work through at school over the year. We begin at Golden and work through to Violet.
Golden, Red, Blue, Green, Orange, Indigo and Violet.
In the classroom we will test the students throughout the term to see what words they have learnt and what we will be teaching next. The children play games and engage in activities during reading rotations that are common word based. During our whole class Big Book focus, we find common words in the book and relate it to our reading.
We encourage families to practise common words with their child at home. The children received a pact of all the words with 2 sets of each colour, this is so the children can play games such as memory. In the pact was an outline of what words the children will be focusing on at school at that time of the year.
