Science Academies of New York (SANY) is a college preparatory charter school network serving students and parents in the Central New York area. SANY provides support, challenges and opportunities for its students, and it instills the necessary skills and knowledge in math, science, and technology to empower students, through high intellectual standards, preparing them for college, career, and citizenship. SANY schools seek to graduate students who can think critically and creatively, who are committed to a lifetime of learning and civic involvement, and who are conscious of local, global, and environmental issues.
SANY and Terra are friend organizations.

The need for a digital curriculum presented itself when our schools were forced to abruptly close in the spring of 2020. It quickly became apparent we needed a sustainable system to ensure our students were receiving a rigorous education. SANY District personnel, Deans and teachers began to collaborate and develop a structure that would meet the needs of the students and families we service.
During this unprecedented time, we wanted to contribute to K-8 education by sharing our remote instructional videos on this website. You can also follow our YouTube channel. The following curriculum materials are used as main resources in these instructional videos. CKLA and EngageNY curriculums are available for free to use along with the videos.
Core Knowledge Language Arts (CKLA) is a research based literacy program designed to provide foundational reading skills while simultaneously building student’s background knowledge. For grades K-2 there is a two strand approach, with content divided into Knowledge (also referred to as Listening and Learning) and Skills. The primary focus of the Knowledge strand is to develop aural reading skills and build student background knowledge. Skills instructs students on the fundamentals of reading - sounds, letters, blending and eventually the act of reading.
