Paradise Hills' Assessment Plan 2025-26:
UTK teachers will administer the Heggerty assessment by 9/26/25 and 5/1/26. Results will be in Illuminate student monitoring sheet.
K-2 teachers will administer mClass Dibels8 reading assessment to all students between by 9/12/25, by 1/16/26 and by 4/15/26. Results will be in Illuminate student monitoring sheet.
3-5 teachers will administer iReady reading assessment to all students between by 9/12/25, by 1/16/26 and by 4/15/26. Results will be in Illuminate student monitoring sheet.
K-5 teachers will administer iReady math assessment to all students by 9/26/25 (K-1 optional), 1/16/26 (K optional), and 4/15/26. Results will be in Illuminate student monitoring sheet. This is optional for grades K-1.
Teachers will record guided reading levels (instructional reading levels) in progress monitoring sheets monthly, before each PLC.
Math assessments (unit assessments and/or other) will be administered and recorded in progress monitoring sheets monthly, before each PLC.
Benchmark Advance Assessments can be administered at teachers’ discretion. It is recommended to administer the week 2 assessment during each unit. This assessment is much shorter than the end of unit assessment, and provides useful information.
K-5: Summative ELPAC will be administered by ELPAC coordinator or other staff member (UTK students do not need to take ELPAC).
Grade 5: Coach F will administer FitnessGram to all students between 3/23/26-5/8/26
NOTE: there will be time during PLCs to identify, plan for, schedule and analyze the above assessments.
Literacy Software:
K-5 students will use Lexia CORE5 60 min/week. We will review usage and progress at monthly PLCs.
Smarter Balanced Assessments:
Resources/tips will be regularly shared in Principal and Educator updates related to the CAASPP. These resources are provided to support thoughtful instructional decisions, not as direct test prep. Educators should consider how these tools can naturally integrate with the curriculum to reinforce skills and concepts already being taught.
Wondering which Math or ELA vocabulary your teachers can select from to put on their word wall that students might see on the CAASPP? The lists are by grade level BUT we shouldn’t wait until students are in 3rd grade to start using this vocabulary. Anyone can use these words!
How do we naturally teach into these words and have students use them regularly?
How are the full write/essay on the performance task graded? Click these links to see the rubrics!

All students in grades 3-5 will be taking the CAASPP (California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress) tests in ELA and Math. Additionally, all students in grade 5 will be taking the California Science Test (CAST).
TROUBLESHOOTING: If a student is unable to get into the test...
1) check to make sure the info has been typed in accurately (name, SSID, testing ID)
2) if, after a few tries, it does not work, then have student log out, and log back in
3) if, after a few tries, it does not work, try a different computer
4) contact Steve E
What to share with students before testing:
Why is the test important? the tests show what you are able to do and what you still need help to be able to do; this is helpful so that the school can identify what we need to focus on to ensure that you are successful
So, always do your best so that we have an accurate picture of your levels in reading, writing and math (and science for grades 5 and 8).
The test results also go to your parents so they can see how well you are progressing in reading, writing, and math (and science for grades 5 and 8). The test also shows how well the school is doing, and so the better you do, the better reputation our school will have.
As you get older these tests will help to determine which classes to place you in for high school and college. The better you do, the more opportunities you will have.
Explain the entire test schedule; let them know that the CAT tests are long, which is why we have 2 days for those tests
All tests are untimed so students may take as much time as they need
Additional Notes:
· English Learners (ELs) First Enrolled in US Schools: ELs enrolled in a U.S. school less than 12 months (after April 15, 2017) are exempt from taking the ELA portion of the Smarter Balanced Assessment or ELA portion of the California Alternate Assessment (CAA). These student still are required to take the math portion of Smarter Balanced or CAA and the CAST/CAA science for students in grades 5, 8, and 12. The CDE will extract the EL data from CALPADS for accountability purposes. There is no place for sites to indicate this in TOMS. Site Coordinators will simply indicate the number of ELs less than 12 months not tested in ELA on the 2018 CAASPP Apportionment form (row H).
· Error message “No tests are available at this time”: If a student receives this message after logging into the secure browser, it could be that the student is assigned the California Alternate Assessment (CAA) in TOMS. Simply pull up the student in TOMS, go to the Test Mode tab and review the selected tests. If the CAA is selected in error, you may change the test assignment and click “Update”. Before making the change, ensure that the IEP in SEAS has the correct tests assigned. Any changes in TOMS may take up to 48 hours for the test assignment to be corrected in the test interface.

Students click the icon, and then log in, using their SSID (attached at the bottom of this page; just find your class, and get the SSID numbers to your students before the test). Also, write the test ID on the board for all to see (instructions on how to generate the test ID below).
For Chromebooks: see this doc for instructions.

Reminders: Work with your grade level to choose an ELA (IAB) and a Math (IAB) that correlates with your upcoming unit(s); then calendar the dates that you will give these assessments; we will look at the results together as a grade level, to help guide our instruction. It is a GREAT idea to take the assessment your self first! (you can do this by following all of the steps, and then just continuing to the actual test)

Questions:
How do teachers administer the assessments online? (add roster?)
-----------------------------------------------
From Carnegie Mellon University:
Formative assessment: The goal of formative assessment is to gather feedback that can be used by the instructor and the students to guide improvements in the ongoing teaching and learning context. These are low stakes assessments for students and instructors.
Summative assessment: The goal of summative assessment is to measure the level of success or proficiency that has been obtained at the end of an instructional unit, by comparing it against some standard or benchmark.
