Welcome our New Advanced Treble and Madrigals Class of 2025-2026
Everything you need to know about choir can be found in the Handbook that you are welcome to peruse through if you need a review on the structure, needs and expectations of the class.
Student Resources are for new choral members or for people who are interested in joining us.
Our class functions slightly differently than a normal classroom environment. It is important to practice good rehearsal etiquette by following the rules below.
Make the best music possible at all times!
Respect-yourself, your peers, your teacher and all equipment. This includes all chairs, music stands, folders and personal belongings. Ask first, if you are not sure.
No food or drinks (including gum) will be allowed in the classroom. You may have water as long as it is in a clear container with a spill-proof lid.
Each student is to arrive at class on time. Please leave all non-music related items either under your chair or your locker. This includes earbuds.
Talking during rehearsal is not acceptable when the director is in front of the ensemble.
Students should use restroom facilities before coming to class.
Students are responsible for their own folders/binders and music. Each choir member will be given copies of music and if they get lost or are found with any damages the student is responsible for paying back $4 per copy damaged.
Apart from the regular attendance policies established by MMHS for the school year, the students will be treated like a professional when it comes to attendance and participation. As a professional, we are hired to be physically present to rehearse, polish and perform and we are paid for our time that we put into the production. If a student is routinely absent, then like a professional that misses a rehearsal, their pay will get cut. This means that the wealth of knowledge your student could gain from our class will be less and your student's abilities will fall behind. Everyone is important and needed for every concert and show we do throughout the year and we build a strong community with the trust we build with each other in class. We will accommodate for any special needs but everyone has the expectations to be present and ready everyday.
Students will be graded through the expectations of a professional musician and they will be graded off of their performance, skills and general readiness and preparedness in class for the entire grading period.
Students will be graded on the following class elements:
Execution of concert etiquette and performance at a concert performance setting.
Daily attendance on promptness and readiness. (citizenship)
Completion of written work and assignments such as google forms, theory worksheets and self evaluations.
Written Exams and Vocal Assessments such as quartets and octets.
Additional assignments and their abilities to finish on time.
For many students this class can be an "Easy A" for those that showcase commitment and honest effort. Rarely do we penalize our students throughout the year unless it relates to character. If a student's actions are routinely disruptive then they can be removed from the class to ensure a safe learning environment for everyone. In addition, if a student is in Madrigals and has been placed on academic probation due to low grades throughout most of the year which prevents them from participating in field trips, then they will be removed from Madrigals as early as needed or by the end of the season till their grades are improved.
For our 2 separate choirs each have their own attire or uniform. To see a more detailed description of your concert attire please select the button with your ensemble name.
