Topic: Energy
Objective: I can move my body in many ways!
Vocabulary: energy, qualities of movement
Extensions:
Play music and prompt students to use energies as they move.
For example: Walk wiggly, tip toe and float, skip with a swing, crawl sharp etc.
As students progress, have students be the director and call out prompts.
Explore how characters in book might move. How does the characters' energy (quality of movement) change in the story?

Topic: Fast and Slow
Objective: I can hear when music is fast or slow.
Vocabulary: fast, slow
Extensions:
Review the story of the Tortoise and the Hare. Practice moving fast or slow to represent each of the characters. We read "Pete the Cat: Go, Pete, Go," which is a retelling of this folk tale, and moved to this Tortoise and the Hare video-song.
After any piece of music, ask students to identify whether the music is fast or slow.
Topic: Mirroring
Objective(s): I can control my facial expressions. I can mirror emotions.
Vocabulary: mirroring, facial expressions
Extensions:
Start by showing an emotion on your face (ex: smile for happiness, frown for sadness). Ask students to guess your emotion/feeling, then encourage them to make the same face, mirroring you. Expand the emotions to the body with gestures. Continue to mirror.Take turns making and guessing faces of different emotions. End the activity by asking students to tell about a time when they were feeling an emotion. (Ex: “Tell me about something that makes you happy? Sad?).
Topic: Color Contrast
Objective: I can create shapes with contrasting shapes!
Vocabulary: primary colors, secondary colors, shapes, contrast
Extensions:
Students will draw various shapes then create a dark outline around it by pressing hard. Afterwards they will choose a different color to fill in the shape, pressing lightly.
