Topic: My Body
Objective:
Bodies can move.
I can move my body.
I can respond to others moving.
I can identify levels (high, medium, low).
Vocabulary: level, size, space
Extensions:
Practice moving at a high and low levels like walking on tip top, crawling, galloping, rolling, etc.
Read a favorite story and ask the students to think about how the character moves. Have them embody the character by moving like the character on each page. Suggested book: Giraffes Can't Dance
Currently, media arts lessons are only offered in grades 3-5.
Topic: Echo & Call and Response
Objective: I can tell the difference between an echo and a call and response.
Vocabulary: echo; call and response
Extensions:
Practice echoing (speaking, singing, clapping, etc.) and listening for echoes.
Review the book “Jump, Frog, Jump” by Robert Kalan, which we used in this lesson. This is call and response form - the question is the call, and the response is "jump, frog, jump." If appropriate, have students say the response.
Topic: Mirroring
Objective: I can interact in a theatre game.
Vocabulary: mirror, mimic, gesture, leader, follower
Extensions:
In pairs, have students practice mirroring simple movements. Add mirroring a daily task, like brushing teeth.
Play "Who Started the Motion". Students sit in a circle and close their eyes while you select who will start the motion. The leader makes simple, repetitive movements (clapping, waving, swaying) and the group mirrors it. Have one student be a detective and try to guess who the leader is.
Topic: Composition
Objective: I can cut and glue paper shapes to create a creature collage.
