Topic: Energy
Objective: I can move my body in many ways!

Extensions:
Play music and prompt students to use energies as they move.
For example: Walk wiggly, tip toe and float, skip with a swing, crawl sharp etc.
As students progress, have students be the director and call out prompts.
Explore how characters in book might move. How does the characters' energy (quality of movement) change in the story?
Suggest reading: "The Pout-Pout Fish"
Currently, media arts lessons are only offered in grades 3-5.
Topic: Fast and Slow
Objective: I can hear when music is fast or slow.
Vocabulary: fast, slow
Extensions:
Review the story of the Tortoise and the Hare. Practice moving fast or slow to represent each of the characters. We read "Pete the Cat: Go, Pete, Go," which is a retelling of this folk tale, and moved to this Tortoise and the Hare video-song.
After any piece of music, ask students to identify whether the music is fast or slow.
Topic: Pantomime: Real and Imaginary Characters
Objective: I can use pantomime to tell a story
Vocabulary: pantomime
Extensions:
Select a short picture book for a read aloud. Read the story aloud, stopping at key points. Have students identify the characters and setting. Ask them what is happening in the story. Either in small groups, or with all students working at the same time, have students pantomime what the characters are doing. Follow with asking students what they think will happen next and have them pantomime that.
Topic: Sunflowers Still Life
Objective: I can draw flowers using shapes then color it with crayons (primary and secondary colors).
Vocabulary: shapes, primary colors, secondary colors, still life
Extensions:
Draw the vase first (sides and bottoms only) with crayons. Then draw the centers of the flowers. Notice that some centers are round, some are oval, some are small circles. Then draw the petals, leaves, and stems using a variety of colors. Fill inside the flowers with primary or secondary colors.
