As you read a book, discuss the way a character moves. Stand up and try it. Ask "How does it feel to move like___?" Suggested books: Giraffes Can't Dance, Pout-Pout Fish
Practice moving with different energies:
Bounce like a rubber ball
Collapse like a rag doll
Jiggle like jello
Burst like a water balloon
Melt like an ice cream cone
Flick a fly from your arm, from your nose, from your ear
Float and sink like a hot air balloon
Glide along as if skating on ice
Pounce like a ninja
Prance like a show pony with high steps

Objective: I can hear and make loud and quiet sounds.

Extensions:
Practice singing any song quietly or loudly (not yelling or shouting).
Listen to a lullaby. They're quiet because someone is sleeping.
Dance with “quiet” (small) and “loud” (big) dance motions to Quiet and Loud Dance Party.
Topic: Tableau
Objective: I can control my body to create shapes and tell stories
Vocabulary: tableau, character
Extensions:
Create more tableaux. Ask students to think of a group activity. Have students for the tableau. Encourage them to use different levels and shapes with their bodies. Ask the audience what they see in the tableau. For more advanced work, have students create a tableau that could happen before this one and one for after this one. Finally, have students tell a story about the characters in the tableau.
Topic: When Lines Move
Objective: I can use lines to show repetition, pattern, and movement.
Vocabulary: line, movement, setting
Extensions:
Play different sounds to convey various settings (e.g. birds chirping at a park, waves crashing in a beach). Then students will use that as an inspiration to create a line drawing that show different types of lines to convey movement from the sounds.
