Topic: My Body

Objective: I can move my body in many ways!
Vocabulary: freeze, general space, locomotor movement, non-locomotor movement, personal space
Extensions: 

• Practice identifying body parts with songs like "Hokey Pokey" and "Head Shoulders Knees and Toes"

• Practice moving and freezing in personal space with Freeze Dance!

Currently, media arts lessons are only offered in grades 3-5.

Topic: Voice Use
Objective: I can use my voice to speak and sing.
Vocabulary: singing voice, speaking voice
Extensions: 

• Practice differentiating between speaking and singing. To go beyond, try whispering, shouting, or a variety of volume levels.

• Sing a song with the class. Simple, repetitive songs are perfect for this age. In our lesson, we sang: 

  • • "If You're Happy and You Know It" 

    • "Head, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes" (version 1, version 2 in Spanish, version 3 R&B remix)

• Review the book “All Are Welcome” by Alexandra Penfold, which we used in this lesson.

Topic: The Actors Tools
Objective: I can create using my actor's tools.
Vocabulary: ensemble, actor, actors tools, actor neutral, audience, volume, imagination, mimic
Extensions:

• Identify the three actors tools; voice, body and imagination.

• Engage students in a space walk of an imaginary setting that includes use of voice and body.

• Add character walks to the imaginary setting.  Call out characters that might be in that space (grandma, toddler, business person, super model) and encourage students to move their bodies and use their voices to reflect that character.
