Topic: Stop Motion Storytelling with Sound
Objective: I can use tools to create a stop-motion animation with sounds.
Vocabulary: stop-motion animation, frame, sequence, movement, background, prop
Extensions:
Use storyboards to plan a stop-motion animation sequence that addresses an issue or problem. Create a public service announcement (PSA) on a topic of importance to them, such as environmental conservation, kindness, or internet safety.
Animate a book! Select a favorite children's book or short story and have students create a stop-motion animation adaptation of the text.
Encourage students to experiment with different animation techniques and styles, such as pixilation (using people as stop motion subjects), cut-out animation, or puppet animation.
Have students work in small groups to create a collaborative story using stop-motion animation. Each group member contributes a scene to the story, and the scenes are compiled to create a cohesive narrative.
Topic: Melody and Harmony
Objective: I can layer melodies to create harmony.
Vocabulary: pitch, melody, harmony, round, partner song
Extensions:
Play/watch these NEW listening maps for "Aquarium" or "Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy." Move your hands up and down to show the melodic direction and discuss how the pitches moved.
Sing "Row, Row, Row Your Boat" in a round with this video from class. Then listen to this NEW video and experiment with singing it in a partner song with "Are You Sleeping."
Topic: Creating Character and Scenes
Objective: I can improvise characters and scenes.
Vocabulary: improvisation

Scenario Switch-Up:
Write a variety of scenario prompts (characters, location, objectives) on slips of paper, fold them, and place them in a container.
Have students take turns drawing a scenario from the container and improvising a short scene based on the prompt, focusing on developing characters with clear objectives. What do they want and how do they try to get it?
After each scene, challenge students to switch characters and replay the scene with a different objective for each character.
Encourage classmates to observe how the change in objectives alters the dynamics of the scene and the interactions between characters.
Facilitate a discussion after each scene, prompting students to reflect on the effectiveness of the characterizations and the impact of the objectives on the scene's development. Focus on positive feedback.
