Cross-Curricular Connection - Writing:
Integrate a writing activity where students create short stories or descriptive paragraphs inspired by their rule of thirds pictures. This helps connect media arts with language arts.

Objective: I can create and perform ostinatos.
Vocabulary: ostinato, rhythm, body percussion
Extensions:
Review ostinato (repeated musical patterns) with the "Ostinato Explained" video from class.
In class, we performed a variety of ostinatos to "Ghost of John." Have students show what they remember or create body percussion for their own new ostinatos.
Try a partner hand game, like "Tic-Tac-Toe" - that's also an ostinato.
Topic: Character and Pantomime
Objective: I can use my actors tools to create and explore character
Vocabulary: character, gesture, pantomime
Extensions:
Have students teach you how to play the pantomime game "Magic Box". Play the game again creating a theme that must be followed (things you might find in a supermarket or things that make you happy). Have the student who has pulled something from the "magic box" invite another student to engage in an improvisational pantomime using the object together. Encourage them to be a character, other than themself.
Discuss the plot to a familiar story. Assign students to characters and have them pantomime part of the story for an audience. Be sure to debrief and have the audience say what they saw and what they liked about the work. This can also be completed with a read aloud experience. As you are reading a book to the group, stop and invite students to get up and pantomime what is happening in character.
