Article: The Difference Between a 504 Plan and an IEP
Disability Services @ College
Every college provides accommodations for qualified students with disabilities under the ADA, but there is no set "accommodation(s)."
All colleges provide different accommodations with varying levels of support. For example, if the student requests a scribe for college but the college believes a text to speech software package is adequate (after an interview and student documentation) that can be deemed as a reasonable accommodation.
Every student must be prepared to self advocate at their college of choice.
Students need to:
Request accommodation.
Provide documentation.
Communicate with professors after any accommodations are approved.
While colleges offer accomodations they all offer different services. Some colleges offer tutors, writing centers, LD/ASD programs, and academic support, this varies by college.
