Notebooks

We keep four notebooks in third grade.

Reader’s Notebook: This is where we collect reading strategies and write about our thinking while we are reading

Writer’s Notebook: This is where we collect writing strategies, ideas for stories and many of our stories

Math Notebook: This is where we record our math strategies, vocabulary, thinking and practice

Penmanship Notebook: This is where we practice our cursive.

🚌 Salem Academy notebooks will be coming home periodically for a signature from our parents/guardians. The reasoning behind this is that, as a parent, you can see what we have been doing in class. Each time I will ask your child to choose three pages he/she wants you to see and then I will ask that they EXPLAIN to you what thinking the page represents. I am hoping to get a dialog started about your child’s classroom experiences. You will be asked to sign (initial) THREE pages and DATE them. The signatures (initials) will be included as a homework assignments. When I am shown your signature, I will ask your child if there was any conversation to encourage bridging the gap between home and school. If you have any questions, please let me know.

🏫 Remote Learners will keep their notebooks at home. Assignments will be sent home through Google Classroom to print and glue into the notebook. They fit best if they are printed at 80%. The best glue to use is a white glue. (Dot, dot, not a lot. 🙃)
