SCURC FAQs
Questions About Who/What Can Be Presented
- Do you need to be an honors student to present at SCURC?
Nope! ALL Saddleback students enrolled are eligible to present.
- What if I’ve never presented at a research conference before?
Then SCURC is the conference for you! This conference is intended for first-timer presenters. It’s a great opportunity to get your first experience presenting at a conference in a comfortable, familiar environment, with your fellow students who are in the same position!
- Do you need to be in a specific department or school to present at SCURC?
Nope! We welcome presentations from students in all departments! We’ve had students present research from Biological Sciences, Liberal Arts and Humanities, Fine Arts, and the Social Sciences. We'd love to have every school/department represented at the conference!
- What types of research presentations/formats can I do?
You can do a poster presentation (printed or digital poster), oral presentation (Google slides/Powerpoint), roundtable discussion, or even creative or arts presentation! For more detail, please see the Presentation Guidelines.
- What types of research can be presented?
You can present data from a research study you conducted, from a research paper you wrote, or from a different type of research project. Many students do assignments or projects for class that involve research - this is your chance to showcase it! If you are unsure as to whether your project is suitable, please contact Prof. Szczurek at aszczurek@saddleback.edu.
- Does it have to be research?
No! This is a great opportunity to show of final projects from any course! In additional to typical research projects, there is space for creative projects, including performing arts, fine arts or fashion displays, dramatic scenes, even dance (on a very small stage). If you are unsure as to whether your creative project is suitable, please contact Dr. Fish at mfisher@saddleback.edu to discuss space/format options.
- Does the submission have to be from a class project? Do I need a faculty mentor?
While many students do research assignments for class and present that at SCURC, you can also do independent research. You should ask your professor from that class to serve as your faculty mentor. For that, contact a faculty member in your department and ask them to mentor you.
- Does the research have to be conducted during that semester?
Nope! You can present research that you have previously completed while at Saddleback. For instance, since the conference is held at the end of every spring semester, you can present your research from the previous summer or fall semesters.
Questions for the Day of the Conference
