Handlebar Position

Step 0 – Position the bike

Before you start, ensure that your bike is on a horizontal surface and is stood vertically upright. You can use the angle measurement feature on the app to check this if necessary. Normally standing the bike against a wall is sufficient.

Step 1 – Measure Bottom Bracket to handlebar angle

Reconfigure the tool and remove the seat clamp. Use the BB/Handlebar block to measure the distance from BB centre to the handlebar similar to the way you have just measured the saddle. The dip in the block helps you locate the centre of the bar. If the measuring block interferes with the bars in any way you could use the ruler without the block and measure to the point where the ruler touches the bar.

Open the app and switch to the “Bars” page. Enter this measurement as the BB to Handlebar distance.

Step 2 – Measure Bottom Bracket to handlebar angle

Place the phone into the phone holder, check the “Measure Handlebar position” switch. Ensure that the bike is upright and the tool is square, then turn the switch off to capture the angle.

The handlebar X and Y values will then be calcualted taking into account the offset to the centre of the handle bar assuming a bar diameter of 32mm and a contact point at the centre of the dip. If you have a complicated aero bar shape that does not fit perfectly you can estimate the measurement to the equivalent point.

It is important that the phone is placed in the tool with the screen facing up when the tool is held at the angle to the handle bars.

If you have already captured the saddle position, then the “Saddle to handle bar drop” value will also be calculated.

In the picture, you can see an 800mm example.

Step 3 – Save Active data to profile

If you wish to save these measurements then press the “Save Active to profile” button before moving on.
